Diane Johnson was born in New Haven, Connecticut. Her love of art was recognized at an early age when she had the opportunity to study with Hilda Levy. Diane majored in art at Bradford College. She continued her studies at the Paier School and with Bernie Lettic.
In 1982 Diane and her family became innkeepers of the Nauset House Inn on Cape Cod. It was here she discovered and fell in love with the white line process. Her work makes a conscious effort to capture the Cape as it is now; places, costumes and moods. Incorporating watercolor techniques with white line process gives her work a crisp originality.
The white line printing process allows all the colors for a wood block to come from one block. It was created in Provincetown in the early 1900's by a small group of artists. The prints were called "Provincetown Prints".
