Egg Tempera is a mixture of dry pigment, egg yolk and distilled water, painted on a gessoed hardboard panel. People often talk about painting of light to capture the mood of a subject but I've always found that it's the shadows that make a composition appealing. Egg Tempera is the medium that allows me to keep the painting alive with clean, fresh color no matter how dark the shadows might be.
